A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized Evidence-Based program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among adults age 60+. The workshop includes eight two-hour sessions for a group of 8-15 participants and is led by two trained Coaches. During the class, participants learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance.

The Mid-East Commission Area Agency on Aging (MECAAA) is looking to expand the implementation of the A Matter of Balance program and will be hosting a Coach Training. Participants who successfully complete this two-day training become a certified “volunteer coach” and can facilitate this healthful workshop within local communities.

Volunteer Coach Requirements:

  • Complete the two-day training
  • Commit to co-leading one workshop series per year
  • Follow the detailed curriculum provided in order to maintain fidelity of the program
